About this event: High Volume but low-level Crime: A Dialogue

Our communities continue to face the persistent challenges of high levels of low level crime, often seen as minor in isolation, but which cumulatively have a serious impact on safety, confidence and quality of life, as well as taking up significant levels of police resources. Theft, shoplifting, public order disturbances, anti-social behaviour, minor assaults – such offences erode community trust, place strain on local economies, and test the capacity of frontline services.

This in-person event will bring together criminal justice and other professionals from across our network to share insights, strategies, and practical solutions for tackling low level but high volume crime. We will examine trends, discuss the interplay between enforcement and prevention, try to understand the psychology of the behaviours and explore how multi-agency collaboration can make a tangible difference. We will highlight both challenges and successes, sparking discussion on what works and where we can innovate.

Our goal is to strengthen understanding of the issues in policing, prosecution, community safety. By sharing knowledge and fostering open dialogue, we learn about approaches that not only address offending behaviour but also support victims, engage communities, and reduce repeat offences. This is an opportunity to shape the future of our collective responses — your expertise and perspective are essential to the conversation.

Confirmed speakers include: Acting Deputy Commissioner, Paul Cleary, with responsibility for Security, Strategy & Governance and Arnold Dillon, Director, Retail Ireland at IBEC. More to follow.
