Biographies
Dr Siobhán Buckley is a Lecturer in Law at Ulster University School of Law. Siobhán’s research interests are in the areas of youth justice, young adult justice, comparative criminology, punitiveness, and cross-sectoral differences between criminal justice sectors. Siobhán’s PhD research examined the contrasts and similarities of approach between the adult, young adult and youth criminal justice sectors in Ireland, Scotland and the Netherlands. Before joining Ulster University School of Law, Siobhán worked as an Assistant Lecturer in Law at Maynooth University.
Caroline Rutherford, Programme Manager, Extern Young People & Families Northern Ireland, graduated from Ulster University in 1995 with a 1st class BSC (Hons) degree in Community Youth Work. She spent 15 years developing Extern’s alternative education provision and introduced Extern’s transitional mentoring support for 16 – 24 year olds in 2013. She has been Programme Manager within Extern’s Young People & Families Directorate since 2014. She is passionate about the potential of Extern’s youth and advocates strongly for youth participation and valuing “lived experience”.
Michelle Kennedy is currently Justice Services Manager, working across the continuum of Extern’s Justice services programmes including Extern’s Bail Supervision Scheme, Janus Justice and Youth Diversion Projects. Michelle has been with Extern over 10 years across various services. Michelle holds a degree is in applied social studies and social care.
